SUMMARY:Perth Traditional Building Skills Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:We are returning to Perth for a traditional building skills demonstration following last year’s extremely successful event. School children from across the city will come and have a mini-masterclass from local apprentices who will be demonstrating their skills. \n  \n \n  \nThe aim of the event is to raise awareness of the breadth of traditional building career opportunities there are and help local school children in their choice of careers. \n  \n \n  \nMembers of the public will also be extremely welcome to come and see these key traditional building skills demonstrations and there will be experts there to help any homeowner looking for guidance on how to repair and maintain their home before the onset of winter.

DESCRIPTION:Forth Valley Traditional Building Forum is holding an event outside Falkirk Trinity Church\, Falkirk over two days showcasing traditional building skills which will feature local apprentices demonstrating their skills. \n  \n    \nThe highlight of the event will be the opportunity for High School pupils to be introduced to four traditional building skills by local apprentices\, college and tradespeople. Each pupil will have the opportunity to have a ‘hands on’ taster session of each skill.  \n  \nThe traditional skills included are as follows: \n\nStone Masonry\nSlating\nJoinery\nPainting and decorating\n\nThe event is open to all and includes an information and exhibition tent which will be available throughout the two day event. It will feature careers information about training and jobs in traditional trades and information about caring for traditional buildings from CITB\, Falkirk THI\, Falkirk Council and Historic Environment Scotland. It will also have information for home owners regarding their rights and responsibilities in repairing and maintaining their own homes and also working together with other owners with whom they share a common interest to repair and maintain the common parts of their buildings. \n  \nThis event is particularly focussed on raising the profile of traditional building skills; inspiring young people and also raising their awareness of the career opportunities which are available in this field. DESCRIPTION:STBF will be holding a traditional building skills demonstration in St Andrews Square Gardens on 23 & 23 May. \n  \nThe event will feature demonstrations by local apprentices of their traditional building skills with school children\, and their teachers\, coming to have a go after a mini-masterclass from the apprentices and lecturers from Edinburgh College. \n  \n  \nDeveloping the Young Workforce has liaised with schools across the area to identify potential tradesperson of the next generation. It is hoped that this traditional building skills demonstration will give the school children insight to the construction industry and help them make the first step to it being their career of choice. \n  \n \n  \nThere will also be traditional building experts there to help homeowners on how to repair and maintain their traditionally built homes. With 68% of Scotland’s traditional homes being deemed and not wind and watertight\, there is a real need to help homeowners to look after their homes. \n  \n \n  \n
